Wardandi Moorta Waangkiny
The Wardandi Moorta Waangkiny Noongar Language Course was one of WMKAC's most valued language revitalisation initiatives, bringing together community members to learn, share, and celebrate the Wardandi dialect of the Noongar language.
Delivered by respected Noongar language practitioners, Elders, and cultural knowledge holders, the program provided participants with the opportunity to develop practical language skills while strengthening their understanding of Wardandi culture, history, protocols, and connection to Country. The course welcomed Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal participants alike, fostering a shared respect for Noongar language and creating meaningful cultural connections across the community.
More than a language course, Wardandi Moorta Waangkiny became a place where stories were shared, relationships were built, and the legacy of our Elders was carried forward through language. The success of the program reflected the dedication of the many Elders and language champions who devoted decades to preserving and revitalising Noongar language for future generations.
Although the course has now concluded, its impact continues to be felt throughout our community. Many participants continue to use and promote Noongar language in their workplaces, schools, homes, and everyday lives, helping to keep our language strong.
WMKAC remains committed to the ongoing revitalisation of Noongar language and hopes to reintroduce the Wardandi Moorta Waangkiny Noongar Language Course in the future. We look forward to once again creating opportunities for our community to learn, connect, and continue the important work of preserving our language, culture, and identity for generations to come.
