Celebrating Wardandi Moorta Waangkiny Students Achievements

Ngiyan Baal Maya-k Nyininy? Book Launch

Following the Wardandi Moorta Waangkiny Graduation, WMKAC is proud to highlight another meaningful outcome from the project — the launch of Ngiyan Baal Maya-k Nyininy?

Launched on Friday, 5th June, Ngiyan Baal Maya-k Nyininy? is a bilingual Noongar and English board book written by Wardandi Moorta Waangkiny graduate Roslyn Khan, illustrated by her daughter Breeanna Khan-Humphries, and published through the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

This achievement reflects the strength and impact of the Wardandi Moorta Waangkiny project. The program supported students to strengthen their Noongar language skills, build confidence, deepen cultural knowledge, and carry their learning beyond the classroom.

Roslyn’s book is a proud example of how language learning can grow into something lasting and meaningful. It provides children, families, early learning centres, schools, libraries, and organisations with a fun and accessible way to engage with Noongar language.

A special part of the launch was seeing Roslyn’s family attend the book signing in support of her achievement. A particularly heartfelt moment was seeing two of her grandchildren attend to have their books signed by their grandmother — a beautiful reminder of the importance of language, family, legacy, and passing knowledge on to future generations.

At WMKAC, we are proud of the achievements of our Wardandi Moorta Waangkiny students and the strong outcomes created through this project. Seeing graduates continue to use, share, and create with Noongar language is a powerful reminder of why language revitalisation work is so important.

WMKAC congratulates Roslyn Khan and Breeanna Khan-Humphries on this incredible milestone and celebrates their contribution to Noongar language, literacy, family, and community.

Ngiyan Baal Maya-k Nyininy? is available through the Indigenous Literacy Foundation shop.
