Gloria (Nora) Dann - Welcome to Country
Kaya Boodja
Welcome to Country
A Welcome to Country is a significant cultural protocol, delivered by a Traditional Custodian of the land on which an event takes place. It is a formal acknowledgement of Country, welcoming visitors and recognising the ongoing connection of Aboriginal people to land, waters, and culture.
At Wardandi Miya-k Kaadadjiny Aboriginal Corporation (WMKAC), our Welcome to Country services are delivered by respected Noongar Elders and Cultural Leaders, grounded in authenticity, cultural authority, and deep connection to Wardandi Boodja.
Frequently asked questions
Our Approach
WMKAC ensures that every Welcome to Country is:
- Culturally appropriate and respectful
- Delivered by the correct Traditional Custodian for the location
- Tailored to the purpose and tone of your event
- Grounded in language, story, and cultural integrity
We work closely with Elders to ensure each Welcome reflects the significance of the occasion while upholding cultural protocols.
What We Offer
We provide Welcome to Country services for a range of events, including:
- Corporate and government events
- Conferences and forums
- Community gatherings
- School and education settings
- Cultural and arts events
- Official openings and ceremonies
Where appropriate, a Welcome to Country may also be accompanied by Noongar language, storytelling, or cultural performance elements through our broader WMKAC services.
Booking a Welcome to Country
Due to the cultural significance of this service, all requests are carefully considered and coordinated with Elders.
We ask that:
- Requests are submitted with as much notice as possible
- Event details are clearly outlined (location, purpose, audience, timing)
- Clients understand that availability is guided by Elders’ capacity and cultural obligations
All Welcome to Country services are arranged through a request and confirmation process, rather than instant booking.
Cultural Protocol
WMKAC is committed to upholding the integrity of Noongar cultural practices. A Welcome to Country can only be delivered by a Traditional Custodian of the land on which the event is held. Where a Welcome is not appropriate or available, we can provide guidance on a culturally respectful Acknowledgement of Country.
